What should I do immediately after harvesting my animal?

Proper care is critical. Heat, moisture, and bacteria can ruin a mount quickly.

For best results:

  • Keep the animal cool and dry

  • Do NOT put it in a plastic bag (traps heat)

  • For deer: avoid cutting too far up the chest when field dressing

  • For birds: place in a breathable bag and freeze ASAP

How soon do I need to bring my animal to you?

The sooner, the better. Ideally within 24 hours (or freeze it properly).

Delays are one of the biggest reasons mounts turn out poorly.

Can you fix an animal that was handled incorrectly?

Sometimes—but not always.

If:

  • The cape is cut too short

  • The bird loses feathers

  • The hide spoils

…it may limit what we can do.
